The Story

In a word, Elegant. The original Estate property purchased in 1977, this mature vineyard is now planted to red Bordeaux varieties exclusively. Of the propertys 489 acres, only 75 are planted to vines. At an altitude ranging from 5001600 feet, it features a complex combination of both sedimentary and volcanic soils as well as diverse, moderately fertile and well-drained conditions. On Spring Mountain, a refined, red fruit character reigns, typically expressed in this wine as a distinct pomegranate note. The spicy nose entices with sage, thyme and rosemary lifted by floral aromas of violet perfume and red flowers. The wine is concentrated but the structure is subtle, elegantly underpinning the aromatic high tones with layered texture.

95 POINTS: JAMES SUCKLING - Hints of graphite and black truffle with a dark-berry thread on the nose, leading to a full-bodied and flavorful palate that has ample, fleshy dark berries and spiced chocolate. Really impressive drive and clarity here. Drink or hold.
Β
94 POINTS: WINE SPECTATOR - This sports lots of savory and sassafras notes up front, followed quickly by a burst of raspberry and blackberry puree flavors that extend lengthily through the black tea– and anise-framed finish. Herb details fill in the background at the very end. Best from 2022 through 2035.
Β
94 POINTS: WINE ENTHUSIAST - From the producer's own 500-acre mountainous property that surrounds the winery, this 100% varietal wine is robustly herbaceous and mouthcoating in lush, opulent tannins. Concentrated flavors of black currant and pomegranate are complemented by cedar and cigar box, with an accent of crushed rock. Enjoy from 2026–2030
